At the main entrance of Simonds High School you find yourself immediately in the heart of D Lobby. Over the years, that space had been dull and outdated. A few teachers, with the help of some students, decided to tackle a renovation to help beautify that area of the school. D building’s lobby is now new and improved.

D Lobby Revamped

The changes are not done yet. According to Mme. Cormier, the cafeteria is possibly the next area being revamped. Plans have already been drawn up and the ideas are looking strong. Everyone who participated to help make the new look of D lobby possible did an outstanding job and the Seabees are looking forward to see what comes next.

Students seem to be impressed with the fresh look of the entrance.  They say it looks nice and is a good improvement for the school. There is a noticeable calmness and enjoyment and the new lobby has become a great hang out spot. Students have taken a liking to the benches and the plants because they are the most noticeable transformations being that they were not there before. Agreeing that D lobby was a good start, they think some good places for remodeling would be the top (3rd) floors and outside. Students are taking a good reaction to the changes and are treating them with respect and appreciation.

The goal is to create a change in the image of the school and reflect more on today’s students. The renovations are supposed to make the school a more enjoyable place. The overhauls are to be finished in time for the open house February 10th 2014, so that the future Seabees and their parents, along with the community and the student population can take pride in their school.

D lobby may not have very many classes around, but it is considered to be the main part of the school. Since it is the first thing people see as they enter the building, it makes sense to choose that area to be renovated. The goal is to capture a relaxing sensation as soon as someone walks into the building. The changes were aimed to be a modernization because the look of that foyer has a reflection on the entire school.

Surprisingly all the modifications done did not cost a great deal of money. With the hard work from the students and teachers, the project was kept to a minimal budget. The only things that were purchased were the plants.

The lobby itself was altered and beautified. The look is intended to represent a fun and enjoyable learning environment. Plants and trees were placed for decoration. Students participated by painting a wall and crafting benches so their fellow Seabees can take a seat to enjoy the newly changed area. A quote from Natasha Beddingfield, “This is where your book begins…The rest is still unwritten”  was painted by the art teacher, Mr. Sleep, and some posters from school productions and musicals are laminated up on the walls to showcase the talent here at Simonds.

The reconstruction of the foyer consists of a variety of changes that have already been carried out. To kick off the alterations, was the removal of the cheerleading photos and old trophies. Who wants to look at an accomplishment from a decade ago anyway? To replace that space, more recent accomplishments were placed to take pride in our students and extracurricular activities.
